Worries of Getting Alzheimer's

1/17/2012   Welcome Linda333,

Don't know if you have posted to one of the Forums listed under the "FORUM" heading.  That is probably where you will get the most help about your concerns.  You may want to try "Caregiving Forum with Ann".

My Mom is 89 and just entering the final stages of Alzheimer's.  And, you concern is also my concern --- "Will I develop Alzheimer's because my Mom has it?".

Unfortunately, there is no way to predict who will develop Alzheimer's.  Lots of research is being done and some possible answers may be coming along.  But nothing definite yet.  The only thing researchers are finding definitely is if a parent had Early On Set Alzheimer's (before age of 60) then children may have a higher risk of developing the disease.

If you think you are developing Alzheimer's, talk with your doctor.  Or go to a specialist for testing.  There are some other health problems that in the beginning stages may have similar symptoms to Alzheimer's.

Good luck and please join us at Caregiving Forum with Ann.
