Dementia Beyond Drugs

Book Cover of "Dementia Beyond Drugs: Changing the Culture of Care"

This is without a doubt the most important book on dementia care in many years. Dr. Power challenges us to think differently about dementia, seeing the person living with dementia in a whole new, positive way. Moving from caregiving to care-partnering, this book covers a lot of ground, incorporating best practices from the vast, relevant literature on this subject. Highly personal and professional, it is incredibly deep, hopeful & thoughtful. The text is easy to read and full of helpful suggestions.

I wish I knew about this when it was published. My husband had a psychotic episode in the Fall of 2010. I learned much later that the psych meds most likely caused it. But after he did that, I was afraid to be with him alone. He eventually was admitted to a nursing home that the doctor weeded off most of the psych drugs.
